Overview

February 5, 2009

This blog is about my odyssey in ice. It started in 2006 at the Geilo Ice Music Festival where everything is made of ice including the stage and the instruments (okay, not the performers or audience) and my obsession continues on today.

In 2006 I went to the festival as a director to film a short piece for an American marimba player. Yes, he made a fifteen foot marimba from ice.

In 2007, I went back with a full film crew, HD cameras and lots of foot warmers. We filmed the making of the instruments, the creation of the stage, interviewed the artists and filmed the performances under the first full moon of the new year.

In 2008, I went back to show some clips of the documentary in progress on an ice screen. I was also finally able to enjoy the performances as an audience member.

In 2009, I was heartbroken to miss the festival but had to spend my money on editing the documentary about the 2007 festival (which hit a few snags) but it should be done in the next few months.

In the meantime I'm going to blog about the festival's evolution as well as my continuing obsession with ice.
